Solan, July 27

The driver and cleaner of a truck (HP-71-4900) had a miraculous escape when the vehicle’s engine, cabin and chemical drums loaded in it caught fire near the apple mandi in the Parwanoo area today.

The truck, on its way to Parwanoo from Uttarakhand, was carrying 20 drums of an inflammable chemical. A team of fire staff managed to douse the fire and save the truck from further damage.

Truck driven Hussan Pal, a Kala Amb resident, and cleaner Amit Kumar managed to escape unhurt. However, a loss of around Rs 2.5 lakh was reported due to the fire, whose cause is yet to be ascertained, said police sources.
