Twin drug haul in Baddi

In a decisive move to curb the growing drug trade in the region, Baddi police arrested two individuals and seized a substantial quantity of contraband in two separate cases last evening.

In the first case, the special cell of the Barotiwala police recovered 4.18 kg of cannabis from Anshul (22), a migrant from Badau, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Dasomajra village. The contraband was found at his residence. He was produced in court today for remand.

In another raid, the Nalagarh police recovered 40.148 kg of powdered poppy from the dilapidated house of Gurcharan Singh (50), a resident of Dola village, under the jurisdiction of the Jogo police station.

Both accused have been booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Baddi Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhiman said further investigation is underway, including tracing forward and backward linkages to dismantle the supply chain.

He admitted that regulating drug-related activities in the densely populated industrial region poses a serious challenge due to limited staff and increasing complexity of operations.

The influx of migrant workers, who either serve as industrial employees or labourers, has contributed to the area’s demographic shift. Notably, police have observed a rising trend of migrant involvement in drug peddling, prompting increased surveillance and crackdowns in recent weeks.
