Two arrested with 9.6 gm chitta, 128 gm opium in Shimla district

Two persons were arrested with chitta (heroin) and opium in separate cases in Shimla district, the police said here today. In the first case, one person was arrested with 9.6 grams of chitta (heroine) from Theog sub-division in Shimla district. The accused was identified as Lovesh, a resident of Chowki village in Kufri, Shimla district.

According to the police, the accused was arrested on Sunday around 2.35 am near Rahighat on the National Highway No. 5. He was spotted by a police team that was patrolling in the area. When he saw the police, Lovesh started running during which he threw a packet on the roadside. He was immediately caught by the police who also recovered the packet in which they found chitta.

Confirming the report, the police said a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, was registered against the accused and further investigation initiated into the matter.

In the second case, a private bus conductor was arrested with 128 grams of opium in Rohru, Shimla district. According to the police, officials received a tip-off that a person hailing from Theog was involved in peddling of opium in the Rohru region. Following the information, a police team headed to the Inter State Bus Terminal in Rohru and nabbed the accused with the contraband.

Confirming the report, Pranav Chauhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Rohru, said a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against the accused. He said further probe was initiated into the matter to establish backward and forward links of the accused.
