Two drown in Beas river while immersing Ganesha's idol

Two persons drowned in the Beas river near Choru village in Nadaun subdivision yesterday. According to information, one person had died while other was missing till the search operation was aborted by an National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team in the river today.

Bagat Singh Thakur, Superintendent of Police (SP), said Viney Kumar of Patayau village drowned in the river while immersing Lord Ganesha’s idol. Soni Kumar of Choya Chukrala village jumped into the Beas to save Viney, but he too drowned in the river. The SP said a search operation was launched yesterday with the help of locals and a Home Guard team and body of Soni Kumar was recovered from the river. He said the body of the deceased was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.

The SP said a case was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and a probe initiated in the incident. He said efforts were on to trace Viney Kumar with the help of the NDRF, the police, Home Guard and locals in the area.
