Kangra, December 16

Two persons were killed in two road accidents in Kangra district in the last 24 hours, the police said here today.

Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Additional SP, said truck driver Chottu Ram was seriously injured when the vehicle fell into a 50-ft-deep gorge at Riddi village on the Mangrela–Kandi link road in Nagrota Bagwan on Sunday. The victim, a resident of Rajol, was taken to Tanda hospital where he died.

Anita Kumari, pradhan of Khaba panchayat, said that in the last three years, she had requested the PWD authorities several times to construct a retaining wall along the road, which was proving to be a killer stretch, to avoid fatal accidents but all in vain.

Sharma said a person was run over by a car and killed after the Scooty he was riding hit a stray animal at Milwan and he fell on the Pathankot-Jalandhar highway in the district.

The police have registered a case against the car driver under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of the IPC and impounded the car. — OC
