Two persons, including a woman, were killed in separate road accidents in the Nurpur police district. Kuldeep Kumar, a motorcyclist who hailed from Bharmolli near Bhadwar, died on the spot at Nagni on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway near Nurpur last night. The four-lane work is under way on the stretch where the accident occurred.

The Nurpur police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS.

DSP Vishal Verma said a forensic team had examined the accident spot and collected the evidence. He said the police would seek a report from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ascertain whether there was any fault on part of the four-lane construction company.

NGO RB Jankalyan director Akil Bakshi alleged that one-dozen fatal road mishaps had occurred during the past two-and-a-half years as the four-lane construction company engaged by the NHAI had failed to adhere to the road safety norms.

“Our NGO, along with residents of the area, has raised the issue of the violation of the road safety norms by the construction company on different platforms, but to no avail. If the NHAI fails to ensure compliance to road safety guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways during the highway widening work, the NGO, with the support of the residents, will take to the streets,” he said.

In another road accident, Neerja Devi (45), a resident of Bharmar, was killed when after her Scooty collided with a private bus near Harnota Phatak last evening.

Neerja Devi was rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Pathankot, where she succumbed to her injuries last night. The Jawali police have registered a case against the bus driver for negligent and rash driving.
