Two killed, three injured as car plunges into gorge in Sirmaur

What was meant to be a day of celebration ended in deep sorrow when a car carrying members of a wedding procession met with a fatal accident on the Nainatikkar-Dhungyar road in Pachhad constituency of Sirmaur. The mishap occurred around 9 am near Kila Kalach, where the vehicle lost control and plunged nearly 150 metres into a gorge.

According to police, the ill-fated car (HP 11A 3859) was part of a baraat travelling from Ghena Bhumiati village in Arki subdivision of Solan district to Dhungyar village in Pachhad. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle went out of control on a downhill stretch before rolling into the gorge.

The deceased have been identified as Virender, the maternal uncle of the groom, and Leela Dutt, who own a barber shop in village, accompanying the procession. Both succumbed to fatal injuries at the crash site.

The injured were identified as the driver, Keshav, along with Jaidev and Kamal Chand. Police sources confirmed that Jaidev and Keshav remain in critical condition. All three were rushed to MMU Medical College & Hospital, Sultanpur, for emergency treatment.

Pachhad police, led by SHO Jai Singh, immediately reached the spot to initiate rescue and recovery operations. “Preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle went out of control near a sharp curve before falling into the gorge. Two persons died on the spot, while three others sustained severe injuries,” SHO Singh said.
