Two women died by suicide in separate incidents in Kangra district during the past 24 hours, the police said on Monday.

In the first case, a 35-year-old woman of Chatehad village near Yol was found lying unconscious at her home after she allegedly took her life. At the time of the incident, her husband was away to Pathankot while her brother-in-law Anil Kumar, mother-in-law and children were at home. Family members rushed her to a hospital in Yol where doctors declared her brought dead.

The police said that the statements of the woman’s family members had been recorded. Additional SP, Kangra, Bir Bahadur Singh said that the body was handed over the bereaved family after a postmortem at the Zonal Hospital, Dharamsala.

In the second incident, the body of Sudarshana Devi (52) was found hanging with a dupatta from a bamboo pole on the second floor of her house in Makaroti village near Panchrukhi. She had been living alone for several years following her husband’s death.

Neighbours alerted the police, which sent the body for a postmortem examination. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The statements of panchayat head Gyan Chand, deceased’s daughter Jyoti and her husband Milap Chand were recorded.

SHO Ram Swaroop said that the body was handed over to the bereaved family after the postmortem.
