The state-level girls’ under-14 school games tournament began today at the Government Senior Secondary School Saloh in Haroli Sub Division. A total of 440 students from all 12 districts of the state are participating in the three-day event, which features competitions in hockey, basketball and handball.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal wished the participants good luck and urged them to play with the spirit of sportsmanship. He said games are an integral part of personal development, adding physical fitness also strengthens mental resilience.

The DC added one should not be disheartened by defeat, as in games a person either wins or learns. He also encouraged the youth to avoid drugs and focus on shaping their careers to contribute to nation-building.

Earlier, the participating teams took part in a march-past. A colourful cultural show was also presented by troupes from different schools in the district. Deputy Director of the Elementary Education Department Sham Lal Dhiman, School Principal Vikram Bahadur and Assistant Director of Physical Education Ravinder Bhullar were among those present.
