The caller also requested the bank for an RTGS transfer of Rs 7,85,521. The Branch Manager, upon becoming suspicious of the caller, proceeded to contact the personal secretary of the minister who clarified that no such call has been made.

Chabbra then approached the police to register a complaint after which the police registered a case under Section 319 (cheating by personation) and 62 (punishment for attempts to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and initiated the investigation.
