Around 200 athletes, including children with special needs and their non-disabled peers, participated in the first state-level Unified Games 2025 held in Bilaspur from May 22-24. Students competed in four unified sports, volleyball, football, badminton and bocce, emphasising teamwork and mutual respect among participants. The event reflected the inclusive educational vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The event was jointly organised by Samagra Shiksha, Himachal Pradesh, and Special Olympics Himachal Pradesh. This pioneering initiative marked a significant step toward building an inclusive society by bringing together students with intellectual disabilities and their peers on a shared platform.

The games were inaugurated by Rajesh Dharmani, Minister for Technical Education, Vocational and Industrial Training. The opening ceremony featured a colourful march past by students from nine districts and vibrant cultural performances by DIET students that highlighted the spirit of inclusion and unity.

The closing ceremony was graced by Rajdeep Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bilaspur, who awarded medals to winners and praised the energy, talent and enthusiasm displayed by students. He underscored the vital role that families and the community play in fostering confidence and social integration among children with special needs.
