A Solan resident reported a shocking theft of her valuables from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) locker at the Mall Road branch. The woman, who had availed the locker 35 years ago, discovered the theft on January 4 when she found her locker open during a visit accompanied by assistant manager Anmol.

The stolen items include gold and silver jewellery such as a tikka, nose ring, necklace, earrings, bangles, a silver crown and rings. The woman last inspected the locker on June 25, 2024, and found everything intact at that time.

Solan SP Gaurav Singh confirmed that a case had been registered at the Sadar police station under Section 316(5) of the BNS for breach of trust. Preliminary investigations revealed that lockers require two keys—one held by the customer and the other by the bank manager. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine if unauthorized access occurred and to establish the timing of the theft. The incident has raised concerns about locker security, prompting many PNB customers to rush to check their valuables. Further investigations are underway.
