The minister said that the objective of celebrating ‘Vanmahotsav’ was to sensitise people about the significance of flora and fauna as only plantation could check climate change.

He said forest development committees had been constituted in 66 villages in the district under a project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. After its implementation, not only the forest area would increase but also the rural economy would get a boost, he added.

Pathania, who is the local MLA, exhorted the members of mahila mandals and self-help groups to get themselves registered under the project, as it would generate self-employment opportunities in rural areas.
