In view of this, the movement of tourists and workers from outside states in Solan is continuously increasing. Keeping this in mind, the police have initiated a verification campaign of migrant labourers and other workers.
Aimed at strengthening the security system and ensuring the safety of residents, the local police kick-started the campaign on May 1 and had verified nearly 400 migrants so far. They are either engaged as labourers or involved in setting up stalls for selling various wares in the fair, which begins on Friday.
“Stranger rolls of all these persons have been prepared by the police and sent to their respective police stations for verifying their antecedents so that suspicious activity or any untoward incident can be thwarted in a timely manner. More than 50 people roaming in Solan city without proper identity cards have been sent back. This campaign will continue regularly in future as well,” said Solan SP Gaurav Singh.
He urged the residents to inform the police about any suspicious person found roaming in the city or villages and remain vigilant while reiterating that they are committed to maintaining public safety, peace, law and order and apt security measures for the successful conduct of the upcoming Shoolini Mahotsav.
Every nook and corner of the city has been occupied by the migrants, who have erected temporary sheds on sideways, pedestrian path or any vacant area found on the Mall Road and the Rajgarh Road. Many such illegally occupied spaces have been vacated by the police after the occupiers failed to produce any identity proof.
