Vidya Negi was today appointed chairperson of the Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women.

Hailing from village Shanag in Bahang tehsil of Manali in Kullu district, Negi has been appointed for a term of three years. She has remained associated with Mahila Congress at the district level and is presently a coordinator at the All India Mahila Congress.

Her appointment has been made under Sanction 3 of the Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women, Act 1996 (Act No 22 of 1997) and Rule 4(1) of Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (Salaries and Allowances and condition of Service of Chairperson and Members) Rules, 1999.

The post of chairperson had been lying vacant since the formation of the Congress government.
