Villagers protest inclusion in Jawali nagar panchayat

Hundreds of residents of Dann, the gram panchayat of Agriculture Minister and Jawali MLA Chander Kumar, and Thangar ward of Farian gram panchayat on Monday assembled at the village to meet the minister to express their anguish on the proposal to include their area in the Jawali nagar panchayat.

But their failure to interact with the minister further infuriated the residents.

The peeved residents held a protest demonstration at the village and raised slogans against the minister.

Dann was recently notified as a municipal council with the upgrade of the nagar panchayat.

Ashok Kumar, Sawroop Kumar, Hukmi Devi, Manoj, Mamta, Gorkhi Ram and Anita Devi said they has submitted a memorandum signed by 250 villagers against inclusion of their rural area in the nagar panchayat.

Most villagers were living below the Poverty Line, they added.

“We are unable to pay taxes to be imposed after inclusion in the nagar panchayat which further is going to upgrade the municipal council,” Gorkhi Ram said.

The villagers have appealed to the Chief Minister and the Panchayati Raj Minister to revoke the proposal for the inclusion of the village in the nagar panchayat.
