Solan, December 12

A wanted criminal, Amit Gurjar, and his three accomplices allegedly fired at a police party that was chasing them at Lehi village in Barotiwala area of Baddi around 10 pm on Friday, police said on Saturday.

Police officials said Gurjar was a habitual offender against whom several heinous cases had been registered.

Before fleeing towards Barotiwala, Gurjar and his accomplices, including Sunny Ghatiwala, Bittu Kholi and Bhagga Shahpur, had shot at a man at Paploha village near Kalka.

They were chased by the police party from Kalka and when the police attempted to obstruct their movement near a private university with the help of their vehicle, two of the four  miscreants opened fire at the policemen.

The police too retaliated, but the accused managed to escape.

A case under Section 307 and 34 of the IPC for attempt to murder and under the Arms Act has been registered by the Barotiwala police and a hunt was on to nab the accused, said Baddi SP Rohit Malpani.

The Barotiwala and the Kalka police have launched a joint operation, he said.

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Amit Gurjar by a Panchkula court in a separate case.

Baddi SP said no policeman from Kalka  has been injured in the incident.

The villagers in Barotiwala, meanwhile, were terrified after this firing incident.
