A violent clash broke out between two families at Gharoh Bazaar, on the outskirts of Dharamsala, today afternoon. Armed with sharp-edged weapons, both sides engaged in a bloody street fight.

Incidentally, Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania, who was passing by, stopped his vehicle. Without hesitation and at personal risk, he talked to the warring groups and managed to pacify them. His bold intervention possibly saved lives, as tension was mounting.

It took the police over 90 minutes to arrive from Dharamsala where the matter was reported. Meanwhile, the MLA contacted Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, terming the incident as a serious breakdown of public order. The Chief Minister responded swiftly and ordered the DGP to investigate and ensure justice.

Later in the evening, investigating officer Uma Thakur said that medical treatment was being provided to the injured. She added that the reason for the scuffle was yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, the community appreciated the MLA’s role in pacifying the fighting groups.
