What our readers say: Frequent jams due to tourist influx in Shimla
DUE to the long weekend, the city witnessed frequent traffic jams, much to the dismay of commuters. Several driverswere either rushing out from or coming into the city, resulting in the slow movement of traffic. Since the city seems to host more and more tourists by the day, the police must ensure that traffic is streamlined in Shimla.

Parking lots charging exorbitant rates in Kullu
THE Kullu Municipal Council (MC) has turned almost all vacant spots in the town into paid parking lots. Even places having only a seven-vehicle capacity are either being operated by the MC or by third parties contracted by the civic body. Adding to the woes of commuters, parking charges are not displayed on most parking sites. Most contractors charge exorbitant rates, often ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 100 for small vehicles. Due to the festive season, many operators have shamelessly doubled the rates. Area residents pay several taxes, and parking facilities should be provided by the MC free of cost or at nominal rates. Parking lots should be operated to facilitate the masses, and not for profit motives.
