Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday assured the House that he would take up the issue of the Una youth, whose last rites were performed in Saudi Arabia, with the External Affairs Ministry.

He was replying to a Point of Order raised by Una legislator Satpal Raizada. The MLA said Sanjeev Kumar died in Saudi Arabia. Despite repeated pleas by his family, no arrangements were made to facilitate the return of his body to India. “What was even more painful for the family was that his last rites were performed as per Islamic traditions,” said Raizada. — TNS
