State Congress president Pratibha Singh today said that she would discuss the issue of restoring the farmers’ right to cut fuel wood and firewood from their property and sell it outside the state.

A delegation of farmers from the districts of Hamirpur, Kangra, Una and Chamba told her that the government had given them the right to cut fuel wood from their property and sell it outside the state. The farmers said they just needed to pay the tax for it.

The delegation further said that the government had recently issued a notification that had put a blanket ban on selling the fuel wood outside the state. The delegation said the ban had adversely affected their financial condition. Besides, the farmers said, the ban would also cause loss to the government.
