Mandi, January 25
The two-day state-level winter sports began today at the Solang valley in Kullu district in which around 150 players are taking part.
BJP Mahila Morcha state president Dhaneshwari Thakur inaugurated the event. Dhaneshwari congratulated the organisers and said it would play a key role to provide opportunity to the youth to display their talent in winter sports.
It will also be a major attraction for tourists because ski slopes of the Solang valley are the perfect place for snow activity.
She said the government was committed to encouraging winter sports. She assured the organisers that she would raise their demands to Sports Minister Govind Singh Thakur and urge him to ensure a quota of jobs to winter sports players. The efforts would be made to develop ski slopes of Solang valley for the promotion of winter sports.
The Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association is the organiser of the state-level winter games championship.
Ludar Thakur, chief of the association, told The Tribune that the matches were being held in junior and senior categories and the selected candidates would represent Himachal at the National Winter Games at Auli in Uttarakhand next month. He said the competition (snowboarding slalom and giant slalom) is being held in men’s and women’s category.
