Woman among 3 held with chitta

In a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Indora police have arrested three persons, including a young woman, and recovered 21.7 grams of heroin (“chitta”) along with cash from them in Tamouta village, Kangra district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Ratan, who heads Nurpur and Dharamsala police districts, said the action followed a tip-off about drug trafficking from residential pockets near the Punjab border. Acting swiftly, a team led by SHO Indora Ashish Pathania raided the village and apprehended the accused.

During the search, the police seized 7.80 grams of heroin from Kans Raj, 6.39 grams from Pallavi and 7.60 grams from Janak Raj, all residents of Tamouta. In addition, Rs 10,500 in cash was seized from Janak Raj.

The SP confirmed that all three had a criminal background and were previously booked under the NDPS Act and other cases. A fresh NDPS case has now been registered against them at the Indora police station.

The accused were produced in a local court, which remanded them to two days of police custody.
