A woman was killed while two others sustained injuries after the pick-up truck they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in the Junga area of Shimla district.

The deceased has been identified as Sarla, while the injured have been identified as Anil Kumar and Pradeep Kumar. The accident took place on the Batola-Piran link road in Junga near Nalta village, when Pradeep, who was driving the vehicle, lost control, causing the pick-up truck to plunge into a deep gorge.

A police team reached the spot and rescued the passengers with the assistance of locals. They were rushed to the Indira Gandhi Medical College, where doctors declared Sarla dead on arrival.

The two injured passengers are undergoing treatment.

Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125A had been registered.
