The police said Pallavi Devi (25), wife of the accused, reportedly died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room on Saturday. Kanta Devi, mother of the deceased and resident of Bhateki village, suspected foul play in her daughter’s death and lodged a complaint with the Fatehpur police yesterday alleging that Shammi had been torturing Pallavi.

The police took the body into custody and conducted a preliminary investigation. After collecting circumstantial evidence, the cops arrested Shammi and handed over the body to the bereaved family after a postmortem examination. Additional SP, Nurpur, Dharam Chand Verma said that following the mother’s complaint, the police registered an FIR under Section 108(B) of the BNS for abetment to commit suicide against Shammi.
