Dehra MLA Kamlesh Thakur recently attended the last cultural evening of district-level Dasehra festival at Shahpur, dedicated to the theme of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. As the chief guest at the event, she said, marking International Girl Child Day, a cultural evening on the day of Ram Navami was being organised by women, and for their empowerment during the fair.

The state government had started various welfare schemes for women, she added, stating that such cultural events helped in preserving folk culture.

Praising Shahpur MLA Kewal Pathania, she said she had seen him working day and night for the development of his area.

She told the audience that their MLA always talked about making Shahpur an ideal Assembly constituency.

Earlier, Thakur was warmly welcomed in Shahpur. The Dasehra committee honoured her with a shawl, cap and a memento.

She distributed saplings under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ scheme.

During the cultural programmes, Mamta Bhardwaj’s melodious songs and the performance by folk singer Varsha Katoch, known as ‘Kangra’s nightingale’ received rousing applauses from the audience.

Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh Anoop Ratna, CMO Dr Rajesh Guleri, Shahpur SDM Kartar Chand, Zilla Parishad members Neena Thakur, Ritika Sharma, Deputy Director (Agriculture and Horticulture) Dr Rahul Katoch and Kamal Sheel Negi were among those present during the event.
