In an effort to combat the shortage of face masks to check covid spread, the Una District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has mobilised 10 women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the district for the mass production of three-layered anti-bacterial face masks.

The groups, each stitching about 300 masks a day, are being paid Rs 5 per mask, while the material is being provided by DRDA. The groups were formed under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Livelihood Mission.

Satpal Kaur, Darshana Devi, Neelam Kumari, Suman Devi, Raj Kumari, and Neelam Duvedi of the Hare Krishna Group in Rakkar said they were happy to be a part of the fight against Covid. They said more such groups should come forward to make masks available to all so that shopkeepers do not overcharge for this item.

The DRDA has nominated Ravinder Dhiman as nodal officer of the face mask project, who can be contacted on his phone number 81948-90099 for booking orders and providing supplies.

Alternately, agencies can also contact the Una DRDA office. Meanwhile, the Una district administration has fixed the wholesale and retail sale price of masks in the open market to prevent shopkeepers from overcharging.
