Yellow alert: Kangra dist admn advises against trekking

The Kangra district administration has issued an advisory urging tourists to avoid trekking in the hills from February 25 to March 1 due to a yellow alert and heavy rainfall forecast. Panchayat pradhans have been directed to inform locals about the risks of venturing into higher altitudes during inclement weather.

Today, heavy rains lashed Kangra Valley, bringing much-needed relief to farmers after two months of drought-like conditions. Agriculture experts stated that the rains would benefit wheat and vegetable crops in the region.

The Jal Shakti Department also welcomed the rainfall, as it helped ease the drinking water shortage caused by low river and stream discharge. Chief Engineer Deepak Garg mentioned that the rains have improved water availability for multiple drinking water schemes. Officials added that further rain and snowfall in the coming days would help sustain water supply for both irrigation and drinking purposes for at least a month.

Meanwhile, the higher reaches of the Dhauladhar mountain range received snowfall. Popular trekking destination Triund in Dharamsala was blanketed in snow today.
