Shesh Narayan Ojha, national general secretary of the All India Youth Congress, today said that the facts put forth by Rahul Gandhi as regards the issue of “vote theft” were extremely serious and posed a big threat to democracy. He demanded an immediate and impartial investigation by the Election Commission into the allegations of “vote theft”. He said that the Youth Congress would hold a protest in front of the Raj Bhawan on November 20.

Ojha, while addressing mediapersons at the Congress headquarters here, alleged that the irregularities in the voter lists were part of a conspiracy by the BJP government. “A Congress investigation found thousands of votes registered in fictitious houses, while the names of many deceased individuals were still on the lists,” he claimed. He added that the registration of multiple votes in the name of one person raised a serious question on the credibility of the electoral process.

He said a Brazilian model was found to have 22 votes registered and in one constituency, 100 photographs of the same woman were included in the voter list. “At one booth, 223 votes were found registered in the name of an elderly woman who even doesn’t exist,” he alleged. The Youth Congress leader alleged that the facts presented by Rahul Gandhi clearly showed that the public opinion of Haryana had been stolen in collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission.
