The Election Commission has received 1.98 lakh applications from individuals for exclusion of names from the voters’ list being prepared as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Nearly 30,000 others have filed applications for inclusion of their names.

They are among the 65 lakh people who face the prospect of being removed from Bihar’s electoral rolls once the month-long window of recording objections regarding the draft list closes on September 1. Till August 30, 2,27,636 voters have directly recorded their claims with the EC regarding inclusion or exclusion of names. According to EC data released on Saturday, the CPI (ML) Liberation (118 objections) and the RJD (10 objections) are the only two political parties that have recorded their claims against the draft electoral rolls so far.

The draft rolls were published on August 1 and will remain open for “claims and objections” by individuals and political parties till September 1.

According to the data, 99.11 per cent of the 7.24 crore state electors have so far submitted their documents for verification.
