13 UNSC members to be at centre of India’s global outreach efforts

Thirty-three countries where India will be sending delegations, under its global outreach initiative, include 13 members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Under this initiative, the seven delegations will visit all permanent UNSC members, except China, which openly came in support of Pakistan during the recent flare-up.

The delegations will also visit eight non-permanent UNSC members — Denmark, Algeria, Greece, Guyana, Panama, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia. Pakistan is also a non-permanent UNSC member for this year.

Through this outreach effort, India aims to project its “national consensus” and “resolute approach” to combat terrorism and carry its message of “zero-tolerance against terror”.

The move comes in the aftermath of “Operation Sindoor”, which was launched to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

The government had stated that the precision attacks had targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and PoK, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Each of these seven delegations includes MPs from different parties, prominent political personalities and distinguished diplomats. The parliamentarians have been divided into seven groups of eight to nine members. A leader has also been assigned for each group. Of the 51 political leaders, 31 are from the ruling NDA, while 20 are from the non-NDA parties.
