Wasim Akram, SP, Haryana STF, said the accused’s connection to Sonepat emerged during the investigation into the firing incident. Acting on a tip-off from the Delhi Police on Wednesday afternoon, joint teams began a search operation near the Sonepat-Ghaziabad border.

The SP said the accused opened fire on the official vehicle of the Sonepat STF. The encounter occurred around 7 pm under the jurisdiction of the Tronica City police station. When police attempted to stop the assailants, they fired at the teams. The police returned fire and the two sustained fatal bullet injuries.

Ravinder had five cases registered against him at various police stations in the state. He was previously associated with gangster Ravi Jagasi and was wanted for a December 2024 incident in which he fired at a police team in an attempt to free Jagasi from custody, an operation during which Jagasi was killed. The police are still investigating the criminal background of Arun from Sonepat.
