Days after CJI DY Chandrachud assured of a detailed hearing on petitions seeking to criminalise marital rape in India, nine NDA-ruled states and the Union Territory of J&K have moved the Supreme Court seeking to be heard on the issue.

The states of Gujarat, MP, Uttarakhand, Assam, Rajasthan, Manipur, UP, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra and the UT of J&K have filed separate intervention applications in the matter. The states and the UT want to present their respective stand on the contentious issue.
