Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani considered 1206 his lucky number so much so that he chose it for all his vehicles, ranging from scooters to cars. However, this very number seems to have ditched him on Thursday afternoon as he died in a plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 (12-06).

The Gujarat leader was on his way to meeting his daughter in London, his wife already having reached the UK capital. He, being the Punjab Affair in-charge and busy in the Ludhiana West bypoll, could not accompany her last week and had to take Thursday’s ill-fated flight.

The London-bound flight from Ahmedabad did not complete its journey, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew on board, Rupani being one of them.

Rupani was the state CM from August 2016 to September 2021 and was popular. The news of his death came as a shock to many.
