“In such difficult times, the attention of the Prime Minister and the active support of the Central government are crucial,” the Congress leader said, urging that relief and rescue operations be stepped up. He also pressed for specific assistance to farmers affected by the floods.

Amid the heavy downpour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert warnings for several districts across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, northern Punjab, northern Haryana, eastern Rajasthan, southwest Uttar Pradesh, northwest and eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
