The Army has issued a directive prohibiting any unauthorised person from possessing, using or stitching cloth bearing the pattern used to make Army uniforms. Such acts are legally punishable, and violations will be dealt with strictly, the directive states.

Last week, the Army announced that it now holds full intellectual property rights over its new digital-pattern combat uniform and the new coat combat. The design has been formally registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata.

With this registration, exclusive rights over both the camouflage pattern and the uniform design rest solely with the Army. The move provides legal protection against unauthorised manufacturing, reproduction or commercial use by any non-authorised entity.
