Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to conserve water in view of the upcoming summer season.

In his monthly radio broadcast, “Mann Ki Baat”, Modi said as soon as the summer season approaches, preparations for saving water begin in many cities and villages. In several states, efforts related to water harvesting and conservation have gained new momentum.

“The Ministry of Jal Shakti and numerous NGOs are working in this direction. Thousands of artificial ponds, check dams, borewell recharge systems and community soak pits are being constructed across the country,” he added.

“By conserving raindrops, we can save a significant amount of water from being wasted. Over the last few years, under this campaign, unprecedented tasks related to water conservation have been undertaken in many parts of the country. I’ll share an interesting figure: Over the past 7-8 years, more than 11 billion cubic metres of water have been conserved through newly built tanks, ponds, and other water recharge structures,” he added.
