Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsA day after “disowning” her family , RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya on Sunday said “she has been made an orphan” and “forced to leave house”.
In a post on X, Rohini said, “Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her and was threatened with a chappal. I did not compromise on my self-respect and for this I had to face insults. Yesterday, a daughter was forced to leave her crying parents and I became an orphan. You don’t tread the path Rohini took. I hope no Rohini is born in any other family.”
“Yesterday, abuses were heaped on me and I was accused of donating my bad kidney to my father, and that too in exchange for crores of rupees and a party ticket,” said Rohini, who had contested the Saran Lok Sabha seat in last year’s general elections.
Later, Lalu’s three more daughters — Raj Laxmi, Ragini and Chanda — left the family’s Patna residence with their children and travelled to Delhi, signalling a widening rupture within Bihar’s most influential political family. Unlike their sister, they refused to talk to the media.
Lalu’s son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has so far remained silent on the issue. He has remained out of public sight ever since the results of the Assembly elections came out on November 14. RJD spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari refused to comment on the issue. “It is a family matter and I am sure the family will take care of it,” he said.
Upset over Rohini’s new post, her rebel brother Tej Pratap Yadav declared his support to her. He said he would bury “Jaichands”. Tej Pratap has been blaming Tejashwi’s adviser Sanjay Yadav, whom he always calls ‘Jaichand’, for the troubles in his father’s party and family.
“I have tolerated the humiliation heaped on me. But I can’t tolerate my elder sister’s insult,” he said, appealing to his father to give him permission to “take action”.
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav also spoke out on the issue. He said, “How can friends of Tejashwi interfere in family matters, I appeal to Lalu ji not to be a Dhritrashtra and take action to save the family and the party.” He also accused Sanjay Yadav of deliberately destroying the RJD.
Interestingly, even JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar asked Lalu to take intervene. “Rohini is the daughter of Bihar and we will not tolerate such insults to our daughters,” he said.
