New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has upgraded the security for RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, elevating him to the status of an advanced security liaison protectee, a designation equivalent with PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The upgrade was done due to potential security gaps, especially in non-BJP states, sources said amid growing concern about his safety, as flagged by the IB. — TNS

Daljit Chaudhary BSF chief, Bhatti made CISF DG

New Delhi: A 1990-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, has been appointed the CISF DG up to September 30, 2025 (date of his superannuation), or until further orders. Bhatti has been serving as the Bihar DGP since 2022. The Centre also appointed Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990-batch IPS officer of the UP cadre, as the BSF DG. Chaudhary, SSB chief, was holding the additional charge of the BSF since August 3. — TNS

Encounter breaks out in Kupwara

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in the Tangdhar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district late on Wednesday. The exchange of fire began at the Khushal Post in the Tangdhar area, near the Line of Control. There were no reports of any casualties, an official said. Further details on the incident were awaited, the official added. Elections are to be held in J&K in three phases. — PTI

Former WFI chief Brij Bhushan moves Delhi HC

New Delhi: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh moved the Delhi High Court on Wednesday challenging the trial court proceedings against him in a sexual assault case filed by several women wrestlers. In his plea, Singh has challenged the FIR, the chargesheet and the trial court’s order related to the framing of charges in the case. A Delhi Court in May had framed sexual harassment charges against Singh in relation to five women wrestlers. — TNS

Scientists test high-speed processor

New Delhi: Scientists from the DRDO and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, have completed end-to-end testing of a high-speed processor. The Ministry of Defence said this is ‘6-qubit’ quantum processor based on super conducting circuit technology. A ‘qubit’ is the basic unit of computing in quantum technology. The demonstration was carried out in front of the apex committee overseeing the Young Scientists Laboratory for Quantum Technologies (DYSL-QT), Pune, the MoD said. The project that is being executed at TIFR Mumbai’s Colaba campus is a three-way collaboration between DYSL-QT, TIFR and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). — TNS

40 injured as wall collapses in Bihar

Patna: At least 40 persons were injured after the wall of a house collapsed on them in Bihar’s Patna district on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place at 2 pm in Shripalpur area on the outskirts of Patna when a religious function was going on there, a senior officer said. A majority of the injured persons are women. Patna SSP Rajeev Mishra said police officials reached the spot and took all injured persons to a local medical facility. Some of the injured were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital as their condition was serious. — PTI
