BSF DG, deputy shunted out

Close on the heels of civilian and soldier casualties in serial encounters with militants in the Jammu division, the Centre on Friday removed Border Security Force Director General Nitin Agarwal and Special DG (West) YB Khurania "prematurely repatriating" them to state cadres with immediate effect. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the two repatriations today.
Agarwal is a 1989-batch Kerala cadre IPS officer and Khurania is a 1990-batch Odisha cadre officer. Agarwal assumed charge as BSF DG in June 2023. Khurania was leading the BSF segment responsible for the formation of the force along India's border with Pakistan.
In a separate order, the ACC appointed Amrit Mohan Prasad, an IPS officer of the 1989 batch, Odisha cadre, as special Director General CRPF. He will serve till August 31, 2025 or until further orders whichever is earlier. Heads at BSF rolled following continued infiltration from across the borders and deterioration in the security situation in Jammu.
