BJP leader and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today asked Punjab to give the BJP a chance and help it win power in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Addressing a public rally here, he cautioned Punjabis against making “another mistake in 2027”. Hitting out at the AAP government, he accused it of plunging the state into “lawlessness, drug crisis and economic despair”.

He said the state needed a government that could effectively advocate Punjab’s issues with the Centre. He blamed the previous Congress and Akali regimes for the “economic decline” of the state.

Asserting that only a BJP government could strengthen both Punjab and India on the world stage, he said major industries would only invest once law and order was restored.

He criticised CM Bhagwant Mann’s governance, likening his programmes to a “comedy show”. He accused Pakistan of “flooding the border areas with drugs to weaken India’s defence by destroying its youth”.

Highlighting the need for a strong leadership, he lauded PM Narendra Modi’s commitment to national interest. He questioned the AAP government’s handling of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), asking where the Rs 12,000 crore provided by the Centre had gone.

Several local leaders, including Sandeep Brar, former OSD to Capt Amarinder Singh, joined the BJP on the occasion.

Addressing the rally, state BJP president Ashwani Sharma also launched a scathing attack on the state government, claiming that “gangsters were ruling Punjab”, operating freely and even giving interviews from inside jails.

Referring to CM Mann and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he said “two comedians” had “destroyed Punjab and Ukraine”, respectively.

He questioned the AAP’s anti-corruption claims, alleging that its leaders, who were once ordinary persons, were now “living in mansions”.

Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Neel Garg hit out at Capt Amarinder Singh, accusing him of shielding major drug traffickers and betraying the youth of the state.

He said after Capt Amarinder Singh’s removal, then Congress CM Charanjit Singh Channi filed a weak NDPS case against Bikram Singh Majithia on December 20, 2021, for political mileage.
