The CBSE has sent a show-cause notice to 27 schools in Delhi and Rajasthan for “dummy enrolment” of students. These schools were inspected by the CBSE on September 3.

While the CBSE did not share the name of the schools, it said these schools were found to have violated affiliation bylaws by creating dummy enrolments. The schools were also found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the board.

“Legal action is being contemplated against those found guilty of non-compliance,” the CBSE said. “A dummy student is enrolled in a school but doesn’t attend classes regularly. Such students attend coaching institutes and prepare for competitive exams. The school fabricates their attendance so that they can take their higher secondary board exams. This is against the affiliation bylaws,” a CBSE official said.

According to the CBSE rules, a student needs at least 75 per cent attendance to take the board exams.

The CBSE said the inspections on September 3 were aimed at ensuring that the schools affiliated to the board adhered to the norms and bylaws of the CBSE.

CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta said, “The findings from these inspections will be reviewed comprehensively, and appropriate action taken in cases of non-compliance.”
