While the doctrines were formally released last year, the declassified versions have now been made available online for public access, including think tanks, researchers and academics.
The Ministry of Defence said the declassification underscores India’s commitment to enhancing visibility, accessibility and wider dissemination of joint warfighting concepts.
The “Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations” outlines a unified approach to safeguarding national cyberspace interests. It integrates offensive and defensive cyber capabilities and enables synchronised operations across the three Services. The doctrine stresses threat-based planning, resilience building, real-time intelligence integration and the development of joint cyber capabilities.
The “Joint Doctrine for Amphibious Operations” provides a framework for planning and conducting amphibious missions by integrating maritime, air and land forces. It emphasises interoperability, rapid response and the application of joint force to influence operations ashore.
The CDS has also initiated the development of several new doctrine primers covering both contemporary and specialised areas of warfare. These will include doctrines on military space operations, special forces operations, airborne operations, integrated logistics and multi-domain operations.
These doctrines aim to offer a shared lexicon and guidelines for stakeholders and policymakers, enabling effective planning and seamless execution of joint military operations.
Earlier this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’. The office of the CDS is currently working on ‘Vision 2047’, a long-term strategic document expected to be released later this year. It will outline the envisioned role of the armed forces in 2047 and guide preparations for future conflicts.
