The Centre has provided X category security to the chief of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) GVG Yugandhar, who is heading the probe into the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash incident.

Yugandhar, who did not have any security cover till now, will get X category cover from CRPF, under which he will be guarded by a CRPF commando round the clock, sources said.

The threat perception review was undertaken by intelligence agencies for Yugandhar, after which the Ministry of Home Affairs issued orders to grant him X category security cover, which will be applicable throughout the country, sources further informed.

The AAIB is probing the technical cause behind the Air India flight 171 crash, in which over 260 people were killed.
