Collegium recommends 7 new CJs, Justice Rajiv Shakdher for HP High Court

New Delhi, July 11

The Supreme Court Collegium led by CJI DY Chandrachud on Thursday recommended appointment of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Delhi, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Madras and Meghalaya.

Delhi HC Acting CJ Manmohan has been recommended to be appointed as the CJ of the same HC while Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi HC has been recommended to be the CJ of the Himachal Pradesh HC.

Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, serving as the CJ of the Himachal HC since May 30, 2023, has been recommended to be transferred as CJ of the Jharkhand HC consequent upon retirement of Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on July 19.

The Collegium recommended Justice Suresh Kumar Kait of the Delhi HC for appointment as the CJ of the HC for J&K and Ladakh. It also recommended Justice GS Sandhawalia, the senior-most puisne Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh HC.

Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar of the Bombay HC has been recommended for appointment as CJ of the Kerala HC. The Collegium recommended the name of Justice Tashi Rabstan, the senior-most puisne Judge of the High Court for J&K and Ladakh, for appointment as Chief Justice of the HC of Meghalaya on the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan on 16 August.

It also recommended Justice KR Shriram of the Bombay HC for appointment as Chief Justice of the Madras HC. These decisions were taken by a three-member Collegium of the Supreme Court comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai.
