Cong demands ban on RSS, ABVP from campuses

The Congress on Thursday demanded a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in educational institutions, accusing them of spreading divisive ideology.

The party also sought strict action against ABVP activists allegedly caught filming girl students while they were changing clothes at a government college in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh.

At a press conference held at the AICC headquarters, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) president Varun Choudhary criticised the BJP for defending the accused ABVP members.

Lamba said the incident reflected the moral decay encouraged by those in power and vowed not to allow the Madhya Pradesh government to let the accused go unpunished. “They cannot be allowed to play with the dignity and honour of girls,” she said.

Referring to another alleged sexual assault at the South Asian University in Delhi, she sought accountability from Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Echoing her remarks, NSUI president Varun Choudhary said the RSS and the ABVP were allegedly poisoning campuses with communal ideology and called for their ban in all educational institutions. He also demanded the expulsion of ABVP leader Deepika Jha, who recently slapped a Delhi University professor.

Choudhary further referred to a case in Kerala where an IT professional reportedly took his own life after alleging prolonged sexual exploitation in RSS shakhas and training camps.
