The Congress on Wednesday once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after US President Donald Trump repeated his claim of mediating peace between India and Pakistan earlier this year.

Sharing videos of Trump’s recent remarks in South Korea and Japan, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “The self-styled, but now thoroughly shrunken and exposed 56-inch chest remains silent.”

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said Trump was insulting Modi in one country after another. Latest in the list is South Korea, where Trump has repeated that he used trade to frighten Modi into stopping Operation Sindoor, and claimed that seven planes were shot down during the conflict. “Don’t be scared Modi ji, find the courage to respond,” wrote the Congress MP on X.

Ramesh pointed out that Trump was addressing the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea, where he spoke about the abrupt halt to Operation Sindoor for the 56th time. “However, the self-styled but now thoroughly shrunken and deeply exposed 56-inch chest is still quiet,” Ramesh added, in a pointed jibe at Modi.

In another post, Ramesh shared a video of Trump addressing business leaders in Japan, saying, “No wonder his good friend in New Delhi does not want to hug him anymore.”

“So far, he has said it at more than 50 times. He has said it in the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UK. He has said it mid-flight and on land. Now President Trump has said it again,” Ramesh wrote, underscoring the frequency of Trump’s claims.

On Tuesday, Trump told business leaders in Tokyo, “I stopped a lot of wars because of tariffs. Frankly, I did a great service to the world because of tariffs, because of trade. If you look at India and Pakistan, they were going at it.”

Despite the US leader’s repeated assertions, India has maintained that the understanding to cease hostilities with Pakistan was reached directly between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, not through any external mediation.
