Dayan Krishnan, who led extradition battle, to head case against Rana

The government has set up a legal team comprising four top criminal lawyers to prosecute Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The team will be led by senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, who represented India in Rana’s extradition case before US courts. He will be assisted by advocates Sanjeevi Sheshadri and Sridhar Kale.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has also appointed advocate Narender Mann as Special Public Prosecutor for this high-profile case. Mann will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in proceedings against Rana and co-accused David Headley before NIA special courts in Delhi and appellate courts. His appointment is for three years or until the trial concludes.

Mann brings extensive prosecutorial experience to the case. A 1990 law graduate from Delhi University, he previously handled the 2018 SSC paper leak case and served as the CBI's Special Public Prosecutor in the Delhi High Court from 2011 to 2019. His notable cases include prosecuting the assassination attempt on former Chief Justice AN Ray, the Medical Council and AICTE scams and several high-profile corruption cases, including matters related to the Bofors scandal, Commonwealth Games and the Jain Hawala diary case.

Leading the legal team, Krishnan is one of the country’s most experienced criminal lawyers with expertise in extradition and terrorism cases. His impressive track record includes representing the government in the 2001 Parliament attack case, Kaveri water dispute, serving as Special Public Prosecutor in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case and handling complex matters like the Navy War Room leak case and Satyam Computers scam.
