Bangladesh is considering garnering international support if India refuses to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On Tuesday, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul stated that withholding her extradition would violate the treaty between the two nations.

The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants against Hasina and several former ministers, advisers and officials on charges of “crimes against humanity and genocide”.

“We have sent an extradition request. If India does not comply, it will clearly breach the extradition treaty,” Nazrul said in Dhaka, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing to engage the international community. Nazrul noted that Bangladesh has issued a red alert and is taking all necessary steps to secure Hasina’s return.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
