Didn’t want PM Modi, others to see potholes, graffiti in US: Trump

US President Donald Trump has said he did not want Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other world leaders who visited him in February to see tents, graffiti and potholes near federal buildings in Washington DC. As a result, he ordered a cleanup of the American capital.

Delivering a speech at the Department of Justice on Friday, Trump, speaking of Washington DC, said, “We are cleaning up our city. We are cleaning up this great capital and we are not going to have crime and we are not going to stand for crime and we are going to take the graffiti down and we are taking the tents down and we are working with the administration.”

“When PM Modi, the President of France, and all of these people… Prime Minister of the UK, they all came to see me over the last week and a half. And when they come in…I had the route run. I didn’t want to have them see tents. I didn’t want to have them see graffiti. I didn’t want to have them see broken barriers and potholes in the roads. And we had it looking beautiful,” Trump said.

He praised Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser for effectively overseeing the city’s cleanup and said, “We noticed there were tents everywhere, right across from the State Department. They had to come down, and they were removed immediately. So far, so good. We want our capital to be the talk of the world.”
